Abstract

In the present study, we describe a microwave-assisted solvent free synthesis of bis-Schiff bases of isatin derivatives catalyzed by Maghnite-H+. Treatment of isatin with hydrazine monohydrate gives in a first step 3-hydrazonoindolin-2-one, that is isolated and condensed with appropriate aldehydes or ketones in the second step. The major advantages of this unconventional bis-Schiff bases of isatin synthesis are short reaction time, operational simplicity, high yield, easy workup and environment friendly procedure. In addition, the green catalyst could be removed from the reation mixture by simple filtration. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectral data and compared  with literature results.
