Abstract

The growing complexity of mobile applications has increased the need for development approaches that combine technical robustness with user-centered design, particularly in distributed software engineering environments. This study examined how software engineering quality, human-centered design effectiveness, and distributed collaboration efficiency jointly influence the development of high-performance mobile solutions. A quantitative empirical framework was applied to 30 distributed mobile application development projects across healthcare, finance, education, e-commerce, transportation, and productivity domains. Software engineering variables included code quality, maintainability, test coverage, defect density, development velocity, and architectural quality, while human-centered design variables included usability, accessibility, task success rate, user satisfaction, and perceived usefulness. Distributed collaboration was assessed through communication effectiveness, sprint coordination, knowledge sharing, and collaboration efficiency, whereas mobile performance was evaluated using response time, battery efficiency, crash rate, resource usage, security score, and a composite performance index. Comparative results showed that the integrated framework improved software quality, usability, accessibility, collaboration efficiency, and mobile application performance compared with traditional development practices. Because the project was used as the unit of analysis and the effective sample size was limited to N = 30, multivariate modelling was interpreted cautiously. Exploratory Random Forest analysis, supported by repeated k-fold and leave-one-out validation, identified code quality, usability, accessibility, test coverage, and collaboration efficiency as potentially important predictors of mobile performance. An exploratory path model further suggested that human-centered design may mediate the relationship between engineering quality, distributed collaboration, and mobile performance outcomes. The findings indicate that high-performance mobile applications are best supported by a socio-technical development model integrating engineering discipline, inclusive design, continuous user feedback, and coordinated distributed teamwork. This study provides a preliminary but practical framework for developing scalable, reliable, secure, and user-responsive mobile solutions in distributed software ecosystems.
