Abstract

Nursing decision-making under time pressure is a critical aspect of healthcare that significantly impacts patient outcomes. Nurses often face high-stakes situations where they must quickly assess patient conditions, prioritize interventions, and make informed decisions with limited information. The ability to think critically and act swiftly is essential, as delays in decision-making can lead to adverse events. Factors such as staffing levels, the complexity of patient cases, and the availability of resources can further complicate the decision-making process. Effective training in clinical judgment, prioritization, and situational awareness is vital to enhance nurses' ability to make sound decisions under pressure. Moreover, the psychological and emotional toll of working in high-pressure environments cannot be overlooked. Time constraints can lead to increased stress and fatigue, which may impair cognitive function and decision-making abilities. To support nurses in these challenging situations, healthcare organizations must foster a culture of teamwork and communication, ensuring that nurses feel empowered to seek assistance when needed. Implementing structured decision-making frameworks and simulation training can also help prepare nurses for real-life scenarios, enhancing their confidence and competence in delivering quality care efficiently. Overall, addressing the challenges of time-sensitive decision-making is crucial for maintaining patient safety and improving healthcare delivery.
